Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Assistant (RA) will be part of a vibrant team that develops robots and algorithms for regenerative medical interventions in confined spaces. More specifically, the funded project pertains to the development of a micro-surgical robot for the implantation of sight-restoring stem cells to the retina. This specific position aims at developing the software tools that enable haptics-based robot control through the Da Vinci Surgical Console. The RA can be involved in the design and development of real-time algorithms for robot manipulation, software for image acquisition with minimum latency, and the overall framework that provides the computer-aided assistance during the robotic intervention. The RA will have the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of robot development, testing, and deployment to the operating theatre.

Key Requirements

Candidates must have an M.Sc., equivalent qualification, or equivalent industrial experience in robotics engineering, software engineering, biomedical engineering, or closely related field. Candidates must possess a first or upper second undergraduate degree or equivalent in Mathematics, Engineering, Physics, or related subject, and must demonstrate excellent engineering and communication skills.

All candidates must have demonstrable experience of developing software, preferably in a robotics context but not necessarily. Experience with C++ and Python is necessary. Experience with scientific computing platforms (e.g. Matlab/Simulink) is necessary. Familiarity with Robot Programming (e.g. via ROS) would be desirable. Experience in software/hardware integration would be desirable.
