Duties and Responsibilities

The Wellcome EPSRC Centre for Surgical and Interventional Sciences is looking for a IT System Manager to support researchers by maintaining and developing computer systems, infrastructure and software. Duties will include recommending and purchasing equipment and software as required by the research groups; Overseeing the installation of new equipment; Installation and configuration of operating systems and software; Advising researchers in the use of computing facilities within the department and elsewhere; Creating and maintaining documentation, and providing training; Monitoring IT systems, responding to problem reports and requests from users, and solving hardware and software problems; Advising researchers in the development, building, installation and running of software; Registering and de-registering users; Maintaining an overview of cluster usage, including CPU and disk space, and plan upgrades when necessary; Responding promptly to software and hardware failure; Researching new systems and services that may be of use to users. 

The post is available for three years in the first instance.

Key Requirements

The successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues of varying levels of IT expertise; experience of cluster environments, batch computing systems and/or grid computing systems; a degree in a relevant subject.
