Duties and Responsibilities

The Wellcome / EPSRC Centre for Surgical and Interventional Sciences invites applications for Clinical Training Fellows with an interest in surgical and interventional sciences. The Centre mission is to translate developments from flagship research projects into clinical tools and reduce the time to first-in-human clinical studies to less than 5 years.

These posts provide an exciting opportunity to undertake clinically-related research in the applications of the latest imaging and interventional device technologies. Working with exceptional engineers and scientists based in the Centre alongside interventional medics in the relevant specialties, these posts are funded for 2 years in the first instance and it is anticipated that the research will form the basis for a higher degree.

We are currently recruiting to 4 research themes:

1. Neurosurgery (Clinical Lead: Professor Rob Brownstone, http://www.ucl.ac.uk/ion/divisions/neurosurgery )

2. Liver and Pancreas (Clinical Lead: Professor Brian Davidson, http://www.ucl.ac.uk/liver-and-digestive-health/groups/hepatobiliary-and-pancreatic-cancer )

3. Ophthalmology (Clinical Lead: Professor Lyndon da Cruz, http://www.thelondonproject.org/?q=team/moorfields-eye-hospital/prof-lyndon-da-cruz )

4. Interventional luminal gastroenterology / endoscopy (Clinical Lead: Professor Laurence Lovat, http://www.ucl.ac.uk/surgery/research/tissue-energy/gastrointestinal-intervention )

This post is funded for 2 years in the first instance.
